For the past decade, I’ve often wondered why Atlantic City, with all it has to offer to tourist, has allowed for the boardwalk to continue being flooded with the tacky tawdry ugly stores that sell everything from cheap T-Shirts to .99 Cent Stores to Massages to Psychic Readings. This prime property, which attracts millions of people from around the world each year has decayed and deteriorated year after year. Why would the City not want to upgrade this boardwalk and use its beautiful backdrop of the sandy beaches to attract more money into this Mecca town? The answer, which I found out this weekend lies within two multimillionaire brothers, Robert and Abraham Schiff.

The Press of Atlantic City wrote an article and interviewed the Schiff brothers that answered many questions for those who frequent Atlantic City. The Schiff brother own two thirds of the boardwalks non-casino properties and for the past several decades they have been capitalizing on the sleazy, cheap, stores that front most of the boardwalk. There reasoning for this is that they claim that for decades, this is what sold. Although many may see these dilapidated storefronts as the low of the low, the Schiff Brothers claim that tourist from around the world love to shop and spend money in these shops.

That was until the last few years since the Walk, with its many outlets offering discounts for all, and the Pier, with its high-end New York shops and restaurants opened its doors. Since then, the Schiff Brothers feel that their tenants have been loosing business and the clientele has changed. More and more tourist with money to spend comes to Atlantic City and they are looking for a good quality product. The shops on the Boardwalk do not offer such merchandise.

So the good news is that the Schiff Brothers have decided to reverse their business strategy and join in on the redevelopment of the Atlantic City Boardwalk. One main project is the $70-$75 million dollar development of the Central Pier that will re-open as a posh dining, entertainment, and retail venue. Currently this pier houses a Dollar Store along with Go Carts and arcade games.

The Schiff Brothers also plan on redeveloping the stores along the boardwalk (along with the City’s help and money). The City realizes that without the cooperation of these real estate moguls, the Atlantic City Boardwalk will remain the same for many years to come. So hopefully in the near future, we will all be able to walk along the beautiful Atlantic City Boardwalk and be pleased with the transformation, which will want us to spend our dollars and help support the effort made by all! Trash removal for renters can be a huge hassle on the summer weekends in Sea Isle City. Check out is 11:00am, and owners require renters to dispose of all their trash before leaving. This can be extremely dificult when you have to pack, drive through the traffice, and may not have room to stuff bags of smelly trash in your car to drop it off at the dump site under the bridge on your way out.
For this reason, all of the Real Estate companies in Sea Isle addressed a letter of concern to the City Council. Hopefully, the new cousil will realize that this is a major problem and offer City Wide trash pick up on Saturdays.

The infamous Sands Casino and Hotel will fall on Thursday October 18th after Atlantic City puts on an elaborate fireworks display. This Casino was one of the first developed in Atlantic City and housed famous entertainers such as Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. A multimillion dollar Mega Casino will be built on the Sands site and will open in just a few years.

On September 5, 2007, Morey’s Pier was voted among the best “Seaside Amusement Parks” in the World. Located on the Boardwalk in Wildwood N.J., Morey’s Pier was recognized among the top three in the category of “Best Seaside Amusement Parks” in the world. This classic amusement park is the only Seaside Amusement Park on the East Coast to qualify for this prestigious Golden Ticket Award.

What brings thousands of enthusiast to Sea Isle the second weekend after Labor Day is the many finds that the Promenade has to offer during one of Sea Isle’s biggest events of the year: The Fall Festival. This event starts on Friday evening with a dance contest and music for the whole family. Saturday is highlighted with the Flea Market atmosphere that spans the whole promenade and sales at all the stores in town. There is also a food court in the center of town that offers various favorites from all the local eating establishments. Music and fun happens all day long.
On Sunday, you will find an Antique Car show, sand sculpting contest, and free trolley tours for everyone. There is also a ceremony with awards for the car show, sand sculpting, and beautification awards are given out to locals who take pride in making their properties more attractive.
Sea Isle marks this weekend as one of the best in South Jersey. So come out and have a blast.

As the summer ends and fall nears, many think that the Jersey Shore is “Closed for the Season”. That is wrong in every sense. Ocean City welcomes visitors all through September and October as the weather is still warm during the days and cool at night. On any given weekend, you will find the boardwalk thriving with the shops, food, and even the amusements. Both Wonderland Pier and Playland stay open during the weekends well into October.

Avalon’s boardwalk is not what most think of at the Jersey Shore. Other than two smal eateries, (which are very good), and an arcade, this boardwalk does not have the rides, shopping, or excitement that other surrounding areas have with their boardwalk. But if you want a nice leisurely stroll, or a quiet bike ride, Avalon offers a nice quaint boardwalk that can be enjoyed by all.

Stone Harbors Welands Institute is having its 25th Silver Anniversary of the Arts Festival on September 15-16.
